I know I am playing favourites but I have to say that my favourite Library is the State Library of Victoria in my home city of Melbourne.

The building is enormous with beautiful architectural features; stained glass windows, marble staircases.  It is a great place to study and conduct research with plenty of comfortable seating and access to computers and wireless internet.

There are always exhibitions to see and artwork on display.  The library has a huge collection of books, magazines, newspapers and maps.

The Children’s Literature Research collection is really interesting as it spans from the 16th to the 21st century so you can get an idea of how children’s books have changed (and stayed the same) over the last 500 years.

The library has a welcoming atmosphere with plenty of things to see.  A must see for any library appreciator.

Warsaw University Library

I was lucky enough to visit the Warsaw University Library in 2011.

While I didn’t actually get to look through many of the books due to time restraints and the fact that my Polish is limited, I did get to walk around the gardens which are situated on the roof!

You get to climb onto the roof of the library (with paths and stairs of course) and are treated with amazing views of Warsaw, a gorgeous garden scenery and you can peek through the glass roof to look at the actual library below.

The walk is not very strenuous with plenty of photo opportunities.  I would love to go back and spend a bit more time exploring.DSCN0482
